Gray is not legendary, nor is he a ghost. He does not warn people about hurricanes… but some of his writings have been cautionary.

Gray is currently a Contributing Editor (the “Slushmaster General”) for Baen Books, and two novels he has recommended out of the “slush pile” have been published. One that was reworked based on his critique, Fire With Fire by Charles Gannon, was nominated for the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America’s 2013 Nebula Award, and won the Compton Crook Award for Best First Novel of 2013.

Gray is an author in his own right and has published science fiction and fantasy stories in leading magazines. His first novel is Walking On the Sea of Clouds from WordFire Press. He is also a singer/songwriter with two CDs of mostly science fiction and fantasy-related subjects. Two songs from his first album, Truths and Lies and Make-Believe: “Another Romulan Ale” and “Tauntauns to Glory,” were played on The Dr. Demento radio show.

From 2008-2014, Gray was a writer and editor for the Industrial Extension Service at NC State University. He wrote speeches for the Executive Director and other university officials, worked on a wide variety of marketing and other communications, and took on several special projects including the logistics for the 2010 “Manufacturing Makes It Real” tour.
